I’ve always struggled promptly replying to messages from friends and family. I find it a struggle to authentically express myself so everything feels really forced and empty, like there’s doubt laced into every word I type. This has become more visceral since beginning this course, and I feel anxiety while trying to reply or knowing I have messages to respond to. What is happening here, is this something that will change with more regulation?

I often experience overwhelming grief, shame, shutdown, or experience a feeling in the center of my chest like a vice grip clamping down in mid-conversation, and or in social situations. When this happens, it’s extremely difficult for me to attend or even get viable sentences out. Then I feel more shame for being unable to engage and enjoy, and it becomes a vicious cycle. If I’m not able to remove myself to take a quick break or reset, how do I manage this in the moment?

Another thing that can happen is someone asked about, they noticed that they were able to stay present. There was this big emotion. They had this experience and this big emotion came through and they were able to stay present and notice the feelings of it. And then later on the heels of that, there was big activation, feeling like, I think they said fuzzy.
