It sounds like you have had a pattern of staying in go-go-go mode, and that is indeed sometimes a way people keep from engaging with the parts of their system that are living in freeze, and which feel hopeless, lost, or numb. First, know that it is actually a very good thing that you are allowing yourself to feel this layer. It won’t last forever, and the feelings of lethargy, hopelessness, and ‘no escape’ are actually part of the response itself. Remember this is the system that is only supposed to activate when our physiology senses that it is about to die!

It’s important to give yourself the time to move through this layer, rather than pushing through it like you have in the past. Just go back to basics. Understand the emotions are part of the experience and that they will change. Keep orienting to safety in the environment, and connect with loved ones, pets, or even trees! We want you to have safety and good social engagement, so you can gently come out of this. Also, gentle activity like walking in nature is very good.
