Trauma, in addition to being a very personal experience, is also cultural and multi-generational. We inherit our ancestors’ unresolved trauma via the genetic code, and also via the learned behaviours that go along with unresolved trauma. So, trauma has been passed down from parent to child for a very long time now, and it is only recently that we have found effective ways of truly resolving it.

Also, industrialized culture does not well-support the healing of trauma, in fact it actively keeps it going through pollution, stressful schedules, economic disparity, not nearly enough paid leave or maternity/paternity leave, and cultural norms of repression. We are just waking up to the reality of what needs to happen to correct this trauma at the individual and collective level, and it will take some time yet for that healing to spread.
